Reconstruction of Culture Centre in Hazar

Reconstruction of Culture Centre in Hazar

The project was developed as part of Dragon Oil’s charitable initiative for the region, where the company conducts oil extraction and processing operations in the Caspian Sea on behalf of the Turkmenistan government. It comprises the adaptation of a derelict Soviet-era cultural centre to contemporary needs, alongside the design of an integrated urban park and public square. Original architectural details documented in the available measured survey records were retained, while missing sections were reinterpreted through a contemporary design approach. The proposal sought to reconcile the building’s historical identity with its new functional requirements. The urban park incorporates a range of outdoor amenities and connects to a public square designed to accommodate both everyday social activities and formal ceremonies. Together, the cultural centre, park and square form a cohesive network of complementary public spaces.
